Exhibition documentation of
‘Open for Business’
Steciw / de Joode
Open for Business was a one day event in which Kate Steciw and Rachel de Joode debuted a collaborative project for the first time in real space. The artists were in residence at STADIUM during regular business hours for one day only. The exhibition featured both the labor of the artists (in the form of streaming video documentation of the artists at work) and the fruits of that labor (in the form of physical objects and interventions resultant of that work).
Steciw / de Joode was born in 2012. Finding common ground in their interest in photography as a generative practice the artists began exchanging images and ideas via social media as proposed ingredients for future collaborative sculptural and installation based works. This ongoing collaboration investigates issues of ownership and authorship, materiality as it is experienced in networked culture and the mutable nature of both image and information over time and space.

“Corner In Space”
A sculpture of a rotating and moving (life-size) gallery corner.
This work is made out of Styrofoam and has 3 large-size printed images of a
real corner mounted on them, These prints cover the entire inside of the structure
of the corner sculpture. Underneath the structure is a robot that makes the
piece move through the gallery space.
The corner itself is a symbol of space. The corner (three lines) is the mathematical
model for representing three-dimensional space (- the Cartesian
coordinate system). By building this corner, I created space as a thing, as an
object; an object, which moves through the space itself.
Material: prints on vinyl, styrofoam, robot
